I thought it would be really hard to write a blog post about a shoe style I don't usually wear. Sneakers and training shoes are the sort of shoe I usually believe should be left firmly in the territory for which they were intended-sports-and not worn with day to day looks. I always associate training shoes with school, either worn out black daps with elasticated gussets or bright white, chunky trainers with skinny loopy laces and hard plastic edges-so you can sort of see why I would choose not to accessorise my latest looks with such atrocities.
Well, it would appear that I've been living under a rock or something, because all of a sudden, the sneaker has become the flat du jour. I only began to become aware of this once all the glossy magazines were proclaiming the Superga (more on this later) as the shoe of the season, but actually, when you start to look around, the humble sneaker has had a bit of a makeunder!
No longer chunky and clompily styled, the new breed of sneakers are sleek and chic. Slim fitting styles picked out in of-the-moment colours lend a cute and casual edge to simple outfits. A more statement styled pair, like the incredible stars'n'stripes Converse above, wouldn't look out of place with a dress at Coachella or Glastonbury.
To maintain the cutesey theme, pick out pretty styles with floral or vintage inspired prints on them. This Liberty print pair are adorable and would look great with rolled chino's and a denim jacket for a new take on a preppy trend.
Finally, the kicks that everyone's talking about! Superga trainers have been seen all over the fashion magazines as well as shodding the feet of many a celebrity. Their simple, classic style means that they can be worn in many different ways and the brand provides several different styles in many different colourways so you can be sure to find a pair to suit. Personally I am coveting this gorgeous vintage candy pink.
What do you make of sneakers? Do you wear them?
I adore converses, I've three pairs myself, but lust over many more! Love this flag pair!
