Vintage Gold

Something a little different from me today! figured you might get a little bored looking at my garden wall all the time so I thought I'd share some snaps from inside our home. Basically the point of these was to show you two of the items I wear a lot inside the house: 1). my housecoat, aka minging old grandad cardigan, picked up in a charity shop bargain bucket in Devon, and 2). these amazing vintage gold leather Turkish slippers, which belonged to a friend of my grandma and have somehow been passed on to me. They are sooo warm and comfortable and probably the most solid slippers I've ever had the pleasure of wearing, I love getting home from work, kicking off my shoes and slipping into these to slide around the house. I have even been known to take them with me on nights out, to put on when my heels start to hurt me. So they even have a life outside the house!
The last few weeks I have really got back into my vintage styling in a big way. I always find that sometimes I go right off my vintage and crave newness and buy things from the high street, I sometimes get bored of my vintage clothes (which sounds nutty but is true) and feel like getting rid of it all and starting again (which I won't do, honest!) but I think the thing I've learnt about buying vintage clothing is to go with what you like, and what suits you, rather than what the lable inside is or what is key to the current trends of the season. I would have saved myself a lot of money if I had thought about this rather than buying clothing willy nilly just due to the fact that it is "vintage" and desirable. I know this makes me sound totes uncool but I feel on my blog I have to be honest, I adore vintage fashion and I have a lot of wonderful pieces but now I know it's better to stop and think before parting with your (hard earned) pennies; will you wear it, how will you wear it, to what and with what? Does it complement your existing wardrobe and does it fit well, if not, are you really ever going to get around to having it altered? I ask myself this now before each purchase but ultimately listen to your gut-if you're drawn to something, and you love it, BUY! And don't regret it :)

First I just want to say how beautiful these pictures are, the light is stunning. You are so very creative.
Those babouches are gorgeous, makes me want to go back to Morocco and comb the souks for something similar.
You're so right about buying second-hand stuff, empty your mind and follow your heart. It doesn't matter if it's original Biba or 1980s Next, if you love it then buy it, it's only you who reads the label. xxx
