Birdy Song

I have never shopped at Matalan before but if this amazing jumpsuit is anything to go by, that's all about to change. I was drawn to the gorgeous birdy print on the fabric and also the fact that I haven't got what I would call a "daywear" jumpsuit so I was eager to get my hands on this one. It's from the Be Beau range at Matalan and is available online here if you'd like to have a look or buy one for yourself! The jumpsuit itself is really well made, costs just twenty quid and fits really nicely. The fabric is weighty and thick, but not hot; it's perfect for summer days. I like the fact that the material isn't really thin because it meant I could roll up the legs (being a little vertically challenged haha) and the roll ups actually stayed rolled up; don't you hate that when you roll up a trouser leg and 2 strides later it's pooled back down around your ankles. I think they look cute rolled plus it gives even more of a 'peg' shape to the leg; as anyone who reads my blog will testify, I have a little 'thing' for a peg or two.
You'll also be aware (I'm sure, I bang on about it enough) that I have a total obsession with vintage and I love that this jumpsuit carries that vintage inspired look to it. The beautiful, almost oriental bird print sits so prettily on the navy background (more facts about me; I adore navy...must be a Virgo thing!) making the look, feel and style of this jumpsuit right up my street.
I got the jumpsuit in a size 8 and whilst it fits me well, I feel it comes up a little big; now, I would say I am a fairly true size 8 and I usually buy a 10 in tops as I don't like things too tight, especially not on the arms, or too short in the body. It's not because I have a bust, sadly. I think the whole point of this suit is that it's designed to be worn a little looser; the waist is cinch-able with a little drawstring so I could style it to wear it quite high, which I loved. I did wear a little cami underneath it so I wouldn't feel too exposed by the low neckline, but if you're lucky enough to have a bust then I am sure you wouldn't need to!
There's a whole lot of detail packed into this garment; so much so that I have styled it with pared back accessories to let it have its moment! The drawstring waist, slightly drapey side pockets, peg shaped legs and gorgeous mother of pearl style buttons on the top part make it really stand out. I carried on the vintage theme to my look with some floral wayfarers (oh hai print clash!) and some little vintage style pointed flats. For days like today when the weather is super warm, this is the perfect outfit to go prospecting in my local charity shops and generally soaking up the sun. I adore this piece and I know I am going to wear it to bits this summer. I would also wear it out for an evening, too, with my leather jacket and some little heels or boots. But for now I love it too much to save for an occasion! On it goes!
Hope you like it too; do you wear jumpsuits in the summertime?
