Unlabelled Vintage 1970's midi dress, £10, Kinky Melon's Retro Boutique, Shoes, £3, eBay
This is such a simple and pretty outfit for me. A while back, regular blog readers will remember I set myself a "skirt challenge" to try and get out of a trouser rut I was well and truly stuck in. As part of this challenge, I fell in love with a skirt length I never thought I'd ever wear-the midi. I usually prefer to wear mini skirts, with ballet pumps is my favourite way. But the midi is a great length to wear every day, especially in the winter when every layer helps!
So, with this in mind, when I saw that my gorgeous blogging friend Vix of Vintage Vixen had set up her own retro/vintage boutique, I had to take a look at her wares. She is definitely my vintage touchstone; she always, always buys second hand, she is thrifty, glamourous, always looks fabulous, and is beautiful inside and out as well as having an eye for a bargain. She rarely leaves a jumble/charity shop/bootsale without a wonderous purchase, usually for mere pence, that everyone is always in awe of when she posts it on her blog. If you've not had a look at her blog yet, I urge you to do so-I've been reading it daily for years and it's inspiring, hilarious and well written in equal measure, and chock full of beautiful, bright pics of the lady herself and the escapades she gets up to.
As soon as I spotted this sky blue midi on her Facebook page, I knew it had to be mine. As a champion thrifter herself, Vix doesn't put silly prices on her items for sale-this midi cost me just a tenner. It really reminds me of something you'd see at Cos or Monki, for a much higher price-the slubby fabric, the roll neck detail, the sleeves-it all seems so current, yet still classically vintage and very 70's.
I added a low backcombed ponytail, and a very 70's pair of black chunky heels to finish off this look. Sadly the shoes are so uncomfortable I will have to rethink the footwear element but I think a pair of heeled boots would look cute....what do you think?
I know I am going to live in this dress over the coming months. I want to wear it with grey tights next I think, I've already got my thermal vest underneath it to beat the chill!
XO Amie
You look absolutely fabulous, I love how you've teamed that delicate blue with the chunky black heels, what a shame they kill you!
