I posted recently about the fantastic range of pieces that good old Marks and Spencer had come up with for AW13. Taking themes from a few key trends, M&S have delivered a collection that is as beautiful and elegant as it is edgy and diverse. I don't think I've ever seen them looking so strong and it's great to see such a stalwart of the British high street really leading the way in terms of trends.
The image above shows a take on the 'Dark Decadence' trend with statement neckwear sitting atop statement fabrics. Rich jewel toned jaquards reflect heavily bejewelled collars and chokers, waists are cinched and skirts are full, in a real nod to a elegant and timelessly dressed woman.
This stunning pink duster coat has, unsurprisingly, already sold out online but fret not, a new drop of stock is due in September so try and get your hands on it then! Priced at £85, this is a trend-led investment piece. Pink is certainly the coat colour du jour, this season's outerwear simply has to be this hue, whether it's blush, salmon or petal, it just has to be pink. Channelling a 'Mad Men' vibe with a mixture of prints and textures, this season's 'Femme Fatale' is anything but twee.
The Tartan Rebelle look comes around perennially but M&S have championed it this time to make it less punk princess, more 'London Calling'. This edgy look combines tartan with leather and leopard print, both in it's classic colourway and also in a punchy red. Subtle it is not, but it's a look that is certain to turn heads and attract attention. The shearling jacket plays texture into this trend and the look also champions one of Autumn's key skirt shapes: the kilt.
On to my favourite look from the new collection, entitled 'Modern Elegance', this sums up the way I would like to dress over the Autumn. The casually draped trench, the boxy bag held just so under the arm, the kicky boots and the checkered skirt all add up to a very chic look indeed, whilst also maintaining that effortless elegance that I've come to expect from the M&S woman. I love everything about this look and can't wait to interpret it with some of my own garments.
What do you think of this season's M&S collections?
XO Amie
