I was recently contacted by US brand ModCloth to talk about some of their beautiful dresses. I have to confess, despite having heard of the ModCloth brand before, I've never clicked through to their site, so when I was asked to pull together a few pieces to offset a pretty prom dress, I knew it would be the perfect opportunity to have a look to see what they have to offer.
I love all things vintage, and the ModCloth website is the perfect platform to showcase a varied and extensive collection of vintage and retro inspired fashion. Every piece is given a cute name; this lacy prom number is the 'Evening of Extravagance' and the site holds everything possible to create a plethora of looks, from daytime casual to show stopping glamour.
I think this dress could be worn in a multitude of ways but I wanted to capture some of the high octane, Hollywood glitz that a piece like this commands. Pairing it with a fabulously draping cape coat provides all the cover you need pre-party, and this glittering clutch in neutral tones adds a little texture to the look.
I chose to keep the footwear simple and chic to ensure focus was maintained on the dress, but I also wanted to add a dash of quirk, which came in the form of these cicada earrings and bug ring. From a distance they would look like simple gold pieces, and I love that you'd only really see the unusual detail of them close up.
To finish, I'd choose a classic beehive updo highlighted with these super pretty barette combs, and add a touch of rouge to lend a real old Hollywood charm.
