L'oreal True Match Concealer // No.7 Stay Perfect Eyeshadow // Roger & Gallet Fleur des Figuiers Perfume // Maybelline Brow Drama // Smashbox Photo Finish Primer
Sometimes, an empties post is actually more of a 'must rebuy' post; I do occasionally look back through my beauty posts to see the products that I did get through and really enjoyed using. In contrast to my hatin' on a load of haircare, here I'm going to rave about some of my very favourite products, how I've used them and why I'll be replacing them.
I've mentioned Liz Earle before in a couple of posts (see one on my skincare picks here) but no matter how other hot cloth cleansers I try (and I've tried a few!) I always come back to this one. I think it's the texture that wins out for me, it's almost ever so slightly exfoliating, which sounds wrong but is just the right side of abrasive to take off my makeup, without irritating my skin in any way. It's not cheap, but it is worth investing in, and if you are unsure, visit a counter and get a sample. I'm sure you'll be converted!
The tiny perfume sample was from Roger & Gallet at M&S, and if you've not heard of or tried this range yet, I recommend you do. I am definitely going to buy a full size of this fragrance, which at £32 for 100ml is fairly reasonable, and the scent is just beautiful. It contains fig, which might seem a little heady, but blended with grapefruit, mandarin and caraway makes it a fresh and irresistible combination. This is the perfect daytime fragrance, it's a very easy wear but long lasting and just gorgeous.
Moving on to makeup products, this Smashbox oil free primer got a lot of mixed reviews from many beauty bloggers but I absolutely loved it. I'd probably buy this over the Benefit Pore-fessional, and certainly over my current one, which is by Laura Mercier, believe it or not; I just much preferred the finish and longevity of this one which smooths on and holds my foundation all day.
I find concealers probably the most difficult things to buy in terms of makeup; the last one I bought (I talked about it here) is (gutted) far too cakey and thick for me in terms of it being an undereye concealer; I can probably use it elsewhere on my face but it's too heavy for covering eyebags. Instead, my choice has been this L'oreal classic True Match concealer which is probably a shade too dark but the consistency and coverage is on the money. I've learnt the hard way to stick with what I know!
My brows are a big part of my makeup routine, and I have been using the Sleek Brow Stylist (see here) which I love but this Maybelline Brow Drama pencil was pretty much the best highstreet one I've tried. The upside: amazing colour, incredible finish, very precise, almost like a shadow pencil in terms of consistency and application. The downside: needs sharpening after every use. This nub was all that was left of the pencil in under a month's worth of use. It's not economical to keep re-buying, but it is a brilliant pencil!
Finally, potentially one of my favourite makeup products ever, certainly top five. These No.7 Stay Perfect cream eyeshadows in Bronze and Nude are my makeup bag staples and if I ever run out of them I always re-buy. The Bronze colour is my go-to, the nude is quite nice for a simple eye look and I also have a pretty rose gold one which I use from time to time but for my everyday eye, the bronze one is the winner. It glides on and is easily blended out, and doesn't crease, which is key. Definitely one of my all time favourite products, which I think will have to be the subject of another blog post!
