I have been spending serious amounts of time browisng the Topshop website recently, so I thought it would be fun to put together a blog post highlighting some of my favourite pieces. Hopefully they've not all sold out, as they are all in the sale! I wanted to showcase different ways of wearing one key piece, which you can mix and match with your existing wardrobe to create a plethora of different looks for any occasion, and also that you can shop the sale in a savvy way, to buy pieces that will work for you for numerous different events.
The piece that I started with was this lovely black skirt from Topshop Boutique (here) as it's a fantastic staple that will work well in your wardrobe through season after season. Topshop Boutique is one of my favourite Toppers collections; it's a little more expensive but most of the range is made in Britain and they use a lot of premium fabrics; boiled wool, silks and the like. Sale time is a good time to invest in pieces from this range but you'll need to be quick as they don't hang around!
For a Friday afternoon, after work drinks look, I've gone for a casual spin on the skirt which is pretty and feminine but still pretty smart. The preppy jacket (here) is another classic investment piece that will work dressed down with jeans or up over a dress, and the print on this gorgeous floral blouse (here) is a move away from summer pastels but still super pretty, seasonal, and another great smart/casual item. Finally I couldn't resist these khaki leather ankle boots (here) with bare legs now they instantly elevate the skirt into early summertime territory but they'll also work with jeans for the greyer days! The cut on the foot is flattering and elegant and the heel is an ideal height for everyday.
To take the skirt to the next level, I paired it with a cute boucle vest top (here) and spangly patent courts (here) for a night out. This makes such a refreshing change to skinny jeans and I am definitely one for just putting on jeans and a nice top to go out in; this is much more feminine and really elegant and classy. The shoes are not only dancefloor worthy, they are also a totally manageable heel height meaning you won't have to trudge to the taxi rank shoe-in-hand!
Sundays are all about chilling out, but if you do have to nip to the shops or head out for brunch or a roast, you can make the skirt work with a chunky heeled boot (here) and a slubby tee (here) perfect tucked in or worn loose. At just £8, this linen blend tee is a great buy and will be so useful over the coming season; it comes in loads of colours too. I love the look of the heavier ankle boot with the skirt to make it a little more insouciant and casual. It would also look lovely worn with ballet pumps or loafers. You can add a little interest with a simple statement necklace (here) if you want to make the look more edgy!
A little black skirt is a definite wardrobe essential and it doesn't have to be boring, either! There are so many ways to wear a skirt like this and it will quickly become a cornerstone of your wardrobe!
