Towards the end of the autumn capsule I posted a little bit about my 'winners and losers' from the capsule, i.e items that I'd worn a lot, or barely worn at all. I thought I'd split that post into two distinct 'winners' and 'losers' posts for this capsule so I could talk more in depth about each style, and why it worked or didn't.
Starting with the winners, I've grouped these pieces into a more 'workwear' based category because most of the items have seen me through my working week, and then I tend to dress more casually at the weekends. I work in an office environment and I like to look fairly smart but formal dress isn't required. I could probably wear smart jeans but I like to keep my denims for the weekend!
The first item that will come as no surprise is this Topshop coat. I have worn this so much over the course of the winter and I really like the style, if you are a regular reader you'll have seen it feature in many outfit posts and style roundups. I think living in the UK gives you a licence to own a lot of coats! It's usually pretty miserable weatherwise so anything that can be done to offset that is definitely a good thing, hence why I have a lot of coats; your outfit is pretty much covered up for about half the year so it's worth having a variation of coats to reach for!
My Topshop Boutique jumpsuit was a great buy; it was a little pricier than I would normally spend but I have worn this so much to work. It's such a smart and easy piece to wear and it will transition well to spring with a ballet flat or a brogue too. Jumpsuits are my favourite things, super easy to wear and look smart with minimal effort. Topshop Boutique have updated the cut of this for the new season, here.
A classic silk shirt would always make up part of a winning workwear capsule and this black one is no exception. Slightly neater on the fit than most of my other, oversized silk shirts, it's smart enough to wear untucked over trousers or underneath jumpers or dresses. This was a chazza find and it's held up really well through washing and wearing. I also like this version from Monki for a similar look.
Ankle boots are a wardrobe staple for me and this Finery pair have not been off my feet since I got them at Christmas. They feature in so many outfit posts because they are the comfiest boots ever and look great dressed up or down. I love the colour, too, which is more interesting than a plain black pair, and the heel and square toe are great features but the thing I love most about them is the fit; they are like slippers.
Finally, what would be a work wardrobe without a pair of black trousers? This peg pair are from Jigsaw and are pretty old now but I love the cut of them, slightly wider on the leg and tapering in at the ankle. I wear these with a cashmere knit and ankle boots and it's a really comfy, easy to wear outfit which still looks like I've made an effort, even if I totally haven't!
What are your workwear staples?
XO Amie
