Wearing: Co-ord and hair slide c/o New Look, Urban Outfitters jacket, vintage jewellery and sunnies, M&S shoes
When New Look got in touch and told me about their Occasion Hub, I was intrigued. I've never been a massively glamorous dresser and I much prefer to wear trousers or skirts over dresses, so I wasn't sure that the range would really have me in mind-but I was wrong. Of course, there are dresses in abundance but there were also some other really interesting items that caught my eye.
New Look have challenged me to put together an occasion wear look that could be worn 'day to night.' I love the idea of having some really versatile pieces in my wardrobe that I can easily switch up the ante on-if I had to nip to an event after work, for example, or didn't have time to change completely before going out for the evening, it's good to have some items in your armoury that can help make the transition completely seamless. This is the look that I have put together for 'night' and this co-ord is the perfect alternative to a dress. It's made of a chambray linen type fabric and it features high waisted culottes and a structured crop top. It's really comfortable to wear and would be formal enough to wear to work, but it's definitely 'occasion' enough to wear for an event!
To give it a bit of 'night out' edge, I used darker colours to toughen up the look, with this leather jacket from Urban Outfitters. Vintage clubmaster sunnies give more glamour and I also used a dark pink lipstick to bring a feminine edge. I absolutely love this vintage leaf hair slide, which is a really easy way to pep up any look for an evening out-hair jewellery is a huge trend for SS16 and this piece really makes a statement, and can be kept in your handbag until you need to transform your hair!
Regular readers of my blog will know that I'm not a stiletto heel girl; I spent most of my twenties in incredibly high heels and my feet are paying for it now! Therefore when shoe shopping I use the Queen's shoe algorithm-if it looks like HRH would rock it, it's good enough for me. These M&S courts are my new faves-bought for work, they are actually pretty edgy with the square toe and tortoiseshell style heel. Comfortable enough to dance the night away in-I'm sure the Queen would approve!
In my next post, I'll be looking at ways in which you can make more formal wear pieces work for daytime, so keep an eye out for that!
