Model Co lipliner free with Glamour Magazine // Benefit Goof Proof Brow Pencil free with Elle
I haven't bought any new makeup in such a long time, as I'm trying to work through the things I already have. I blogged about the makeup capsule here, and I this really makes up my daily 'face' and I rarely deviate from it-except for maybe a red lip on a special occasion! Trying to use up what I have has also had benefits in other ways, too; I'm wasting less makeup by not letting products go out of date (I never really understood how makeup could 'go bad' but it does, and it's not good to put that on your face!) and I'm also saving money buy not buying needlessly.
I don't really buy magazines, anymore, either, apart from my subscription to Elle magazine, but it struck me recently how much better the 'free gifts' that come with magazines are now. I remember buying copies of my favourite J17 magazines to get glitter rollerballs, stick on tattoos, naff books and compilation cds. Not so these days-you can get makeup by established and coveted brands, even if sometimes you only get a sample size!
I picked up a copy of Glamour with this free Models Co lip pencil for £1. I don't have a lip liner in this shade and I thought it might also work as a complete lip colour, which it does, nicely. It's a pale nude/pinky brown shade and it retails for £10, so I thought it would be good to try out for £1! I really like the consistency and the colour.
I also picked up the Benefit Goof Proof brow pencil which I haven't tried properly yet, but it was free with my Elle magazine which I subscribe to so I thought I'd give it a go. I must be the only blogger who doesn't really like Benefit makeup; I rarely find a product from them that works for me so I don't hold out much hope for this!
That said, I think that it's always worth trying makeup that you might not necessarily buy, and picking up samples and freebies is a great way to do this. I think it also helps that magazines compete with one another to give away better things, whilst keeping their cover prices low which can only benefit the consumer!
