New in Capsule Wardrobe picks
My approach to the capsule wardrobe has definitely 'loosened' as the project has gone on. I think because I have become a little disenchanted with having to buy all of the things I need in a small window of time, I found that I was, contradictory to the aim of the challenge, actually returning a lot more, because I wouldn't have had time to properly research what I wanted to get, so would end up buying in more of a hurry and finding I didn't like what I was ending up with. To this end, I have changed the moos of the challenge slightly by buying what I need, when I need it, but still trying not to shop to excess, which has still remained challenging for me. Nevertheless, I have found that I am a lot happier with my more considered purchases and I have been getting a lot of wear from them.
I had a River Island voucher burning a hole in my pocket for, no joke, around 6 months but I haven't been able to find anything I want to spend it on in the store. A couple of items I did get I ended up returning as they just weren't right, and though I considered getting a pair of shoes or two, again, none seemed to fit properly or be any different from things I already had. So, I saved my voucher until something I really liked came up, and I ended up buying two items in the sale recently. I really liked this tweed effect bomber jacket, and as this is not a jacket style I own, I thought it would be nice to give it a try. Perfect for summer, it's lightweight and fits really nicely. It was reduced to £20 in the sale, too! I think it's now sold out but this one is similar. I also picked up a very sweet crochet vest top which I thought would look lovely with denim. Despite my current white/cream top ratio far outweighing that of any other colour, I know this is something I'll get wear from and I love the fabric. This was £12, again I think it's sold out but this one is also lovely.
I've talked about Reclaimed Vintage before on the blog and I had also mentioned wanting a summer jumpsuit. RV came up trumps with this sleeveless, lightweight cropped number which has a really 70's point collar and zips up the front. It's so cool and looks awesome worn for work with a white tee underneath. It's still available and in the sale here, too!
Denim shorts were another item on the wardrobe hit list and I actually picked up this pair from eBay. They are the Topshop Ashley shorts in black and the fit of these is just lovely-they are long without being too boardy and have that lovely vintage high waist fit. A definite summer staple (if the weather complies!)
Finally, I've already spoken about my espadrille obsession here but these sliders have definitely become my go-to summer shoe. I thought they would be useful for hotter days but I have worn them pretty much every day that it hasn't rained; they go with everything and are so comfortable to slip on. Summer fashion as it should be; carefree and simple!
