Door mat, cushions, travel mug, ceramic mug gifted by IWOOT
We actually moved house in July and I've been very slack on the blog front! I had wanted to put together a series of befores and afters and talk about the changes we'd made to the property, but as it happened we haven't really done all that much. When we first moved in everything was lilac, which is fine but not to our taste so we repainted throughout and also changed the carpet in the spare room from bright purple to light grey, which made the room seem much bigger and brighter. It's currently the dumping ground for the flat but will become Adrian's office but we are still looking for some furniture; as is the case with the whole place really. We had a few lovely pieces that we'd collected over the years, but a lot of the cheaper Ikea items we'd had for eons didn't survive the move (the coffee table collapsed when I took everything out of the drawers, I think the stuff inside it was holding it together!)
In an effort to a) save money and b) the environment, I'd say about 90% of the flat has been furnished second hand. We both love antique furniture and neither of us are bothered about things being particularly matchy or looking brand new; I love things that have a bit of character and are usually much better made than anything made of MDF and picked up from Argos. We did buy a new sofa, this was because we have had the same tiny sofa for about 5 years and we wanted something bigger as the new place has much larger rooms than our previous property. We also were very kindly given some money from Adrian's parents as a Wedding present with which we bought a small chair for the sitting room. The search continues for Adrian's desk/a pair of bedside tables/a bookshelf!
It was really timely when IWOOT got in touch to see if I'd like to feature some of their homewares, which fit in perfectly really with our aesthetic. I was able to pick out a few things to accessorize and dress up our space and I was so impressed with the items I got!
Firstly, cushions can transform the look of a room and I loved the bright, cheery, hand-drawn feel that these botanical floral ones have. They tie in perfectly with the colours in our sitting room which include navy, mustard, brown and red, with natural wood and wicker details. There's a Black Friday deal currently on for 40% off and you can see the ones that I chose here.
A travel mug is something I can't do without and I always try to take one with me if I think I'm going to buy a hot drink, or just to have in the car on my commute. This steel thermos one keeps my tea hot whilst also looking pretty cool! On the topic of tea, how fab is this mug. I often wear my hair in a top knot so I thought it was really appropriate for me! It would also make a great gift for someone who also wears their hair this way frequently - maybe a good Secret Santa gift?!
A doormat is something that is ultimately quite functional but no plain boring ones here - I love this 'Edited Stripes' one which, as doormats go, is really quite chic! This would make a lovely housewarming gift, which serves a purpose but is also really nice to look at (because how boring is spending money on a dull old doormat!) We have one outside our door but it's nice to have another one inside too, to catch any stray dirt and also brighten up the hallway!
All these fabulous home accessories can be found at IWOOT online here.
